Not just for
IT
The team at RapidBI have been
impressed at the developments that the IITT have made. In
developing a standards originally for the IT industry - they
have developed a standard that will suit any industry for
training and learning delivery and facilitation.
What is the Institute of IT Training's
TPMA Service?
The IITT's Trainer Performance
Monitoring & Assessment (TPMA) service is a collection of
processes, associated guides and records, designed for
Training Managers and trainers. It provides a framework for
the objective assessment of a trainer's delivery performance
and associated signposting of developmental activity.
The Competencies and Behaviours Framework, or Standards,
which form the governance for this service, are aligned to
pedagogical (both industry and educational) best practice.
These competencies and behaviours are aligned to national
standards on the Qualifications & Credit Framework and for
IITT Professional membership.
The effective implementation of the TPMA process assumes
that users of the tools within the service are familiar with
accepted trainer delivery competencies, and that they have an
understanding and competence in conducting live assessments.
This includes being able to provide face-to-face feedback
after assessment in a constructive and sensitive way.
The reviews undertaken using this Toolkit form an integral
part of generating an appropriate portfolio of evidence which
can then be used by the trainer to achieve both Professional
membership of the IITT and the nationally recognised
qualification PTLLS.
The process and successful outcomes are also recognised
within the IITT's organisational Accreditation programmes and
can lead to an organisation achieving the prestigious Gold
Standard Accredited status.
The
National Training Standards
The Institute of IT Training has
for the past 13 years been successfully working with its
members in raising the standards of training. In the past, it
ensured that members were certified to at least Level 3
equivalent standards but has been working closely with
national Sector Skills Councils and Awarding Bodies, including
OCR, City and Guilds and the BCS, to update the quality
requirements for training provision to modern standards.
Following its extensive programme of research and
development, the IITT has combined Government, BCS (ACTT) and
IITT standards to create a best of breed, de facto, national
standard for trainers, tutors and teachers of all disciplines,
whether they are IT trainers, L&D trainers, tutors or
educational teachers. The IITT believes this will
significantly upgrade the standards of performance of training
delivery for the entire training and teaching profession.
This provision allows for a
clear industry wide set of standards suitable for all
trainers, whether they are trainers, tutors or teachers,
whatever their discipline, irrespective of the teaching
content.
Why assess the
performance of your trainers?
The IITT strongly
believes that today's Training Manager, irrespective of the
type of organisation, must ensure that:
the quality of all training is
performed and monitored to the highest quality standards which
are aligned to National Standards on the Qualifications &
Credit Framework that the learners actually acquire a sound
learning experience and that the learning acquired is able to
be applied to the learner's workplace all training delivery is
consistent and monitored for quality across the
organisation.
To facilitate this, it is
imperative that each trainer is assessed in a live environment
on a regular basis and that each assessment aligns to national
standards and is then linked to each candidate's Continual
Professional Development (CPD). This also can, and should, be
linked to the individual's Appraisal process.
'The IITT strongly believes that the true way to judge the
ongoing quality of performance and that a regular, live,
independently governed assessment is the only way to ensure
that every training professional:
- Facilitates/delivers learning to the National Standards
benchmark
- Receives objective guidance on potential improvement and
developmental activity which should link to individual's
appraisals
- Provides the employer with an objective benchmark to
monitor the performance and quality of all trainers and the
learning for all employees
- Contributes toward the achievement of a nationally
recognised Level 4 Award on the Qualifications & Credit
Framework
- Achieves professional membership of the Institute of IT
Training, with post nominal letters after their name.
